What to Expect After Cataract Surgery

After you have had your cataract surgery, your cataract surgeon will ask you to return to the facility either later that day of the following day so that he can examine the healing process and make sure that there are no complications arising.

Also, depending on the incision made, cataract surgeon preference, and the cataract surgery, the cataract surgeon may ask you to wear a shield over the eye while sleeping or for the entire day. During the healing process, you may leak pink or clear tears that are normal and can simply be wiped away.

Smoking, alcoholic drinks, and other substances that can irritate the eyes should be avoided in the days following the cataract surgery. However, you can return to normal activities like watching TV, reading, or light work as long as it does not endanger the eyes the day of the cataract surgery or the following day.

Most patients are surprised at how well they are able to see things just days after the surgery, and results can increase as time goes on. The cataract surgeon may suggest that you wait to get a new eyeglass prescription for a few weeks so that the eye can heal and adjust to the Intraocular Lens (IOL) as much as possible.

For the first few weeks following the surgery, the cataract surgeon will prescribe medicating eye drops that will act as an anti-inflammatory and antibiotic. The frequency of application of the eye drops will lessen as your eye continues to heal.

For the most part, you will be far less dependent on eyeglasses or contact after your cataract surgery. Also, objects should appear sharper, and colors should stand out more and be even more brilliant.

At SNEADCataract we want to provide you with the best vision possible. If you are suffering from cataracts, schedule an initial consultation to discuss cataract surgery with SNEADCataract.
